Search for " rhythmdb.xml " file within your home directory and it's subdirectories (don't forget the hidden ones as well).  Delete it (or rename it if you want backup). Restart Rhythmbox.

Thumb drives are great replacement for CDs and cassette tapes for playing music in your car while driving. Now most of the car audio players comes with audio playing from a thumb drive. You can actively add music to your liking into the thumb drive or replace them with other music tracks. In Ubuntu Linux we are spoilt for choices of many good music management and player softwares (Banshee, Rhythmbox, Amorok, Exaile, etc ...). If we plug in any portable audio player, these softwares will immediately recognize them and allow music management to the portable audio player. You can transfer music into it, import from it, deleting music tracks and perform a sync with a playlist. Wouldn't it be great if you can manage the music tracks in your thumb drive with the softwares. It would be better than going through all those folders in nautilus and transferring them. But if you plug in a thumb drive, these softwares will not recognize them.

This " .is_audio_player " file is an implementation for mass storage devices (pendrive, portable HDD, etc ..) to mimic as a portable audio player in Linux music management softwares (Rythmbox, Banshee, Amorok, etc...). This is also a workaround for some portable audio player that are not recognizable by the Linux music management softwares as a portable audio player (mount as a mass storage device when plug-in through USB). Once the mass storage device is recognized as a portable audio player, you can use music management softwares (Rythmbox, Banshee, etc ...) to manage the music in the "portable audio player". This file have to be created in the root path of the mass storage devices. Note that this is a hidden file (files with a "dot" in front of their filenames), so remember to enable "show hidden files" option in nautilus or use "-a" option in your "ls" command to find it.
